Binoculars test is an extremely simple task and at the same time quite difficult. Simple because binoculars are not a particularly clever device - in order to look into it, you do not need to study and memorize the instructions, which are often written in such a way that only its authors are able to adequately understand it. On the other hand, there are so many models of binoculars in Russia in recent decades that it is a serious problem to decide which one to give preference to.
I think many would like to have a lightweight compact device that has the capabilities of a sizeable and heavy one. But miracles, alas, do not happen. And therefore, many understand that the most reasonable thing in most cases is a compromise: maximum benefit with minimum weight and dimensions. The same can be said about the compromise between price and quality. It seems to me that the Action line binoculars provided by Nikon for the test, namely the 12x50 CF and the variable 10-22x50 CF, just fit into the optimum in terms of the mentioned compromises.
It's no secret that Nikon was formed in Japan from three small optics companies in the same year that Aurora fired at Winter. But, being the same age as our revolution, she not only did not sink into oblivion, but in our time has become one of the most recognizable in the world. Its industrial sites are located in Japan, China and Thailand. And, probably, that is why, first of all, I was struck by the label on the boxes with the words "Made in China". Note that it is contradicted by two barcodes located on the same label - one indicates that the product is made in the USA, the other that in Japan. Apparently, this riddle has some simple explanation, but I can only say that even if it is China, then "China" can be very, very different in quality.
In this case, it is of a high level. The aforementioned binoculars are relatively recent on the market, and the specialized press has not yet made their judgments about them. But I had the opportunity to spin these devices for several days, compare with what I had in my arsenal, and with what I had to test before.
Outwardly, binoculars look like twins. The traditional "broken" design for devices with porro-prisms, which, thanks to its elegant, streamlined shapes, looks very modern. The rubberized body is made of lightweight and durable polycarbonate. The lenses are securely fixed in a metal frame. Multilayer AR coatings. 12x50 is labeled Waterproof, that is, it is waterproof and, according to the instructions, can be immersed in water for 5 minutes. to a depth of 5 m without consequences for the device. At the same time, the weight of the changer is 1025 g; 12x50 has a little more - 1045, and both can be considered still fit within the limits for running hunts. The rubber-plastic caps on the lenses and eyepieces hold tight and can be easily attached to the wide neck strap, as well as removed from it without problems.
The binoculars have central focusing with diopter correction on the right eyepiece. Needless to say, focusing is smooth, without backlash. The adjustment range is quite large, designed for very low vision in both plus a
