Although Ford is not the first to use it (missiles, planes, and weapons are called that, but in general, the raptor was originally a dinosaur), and pickup trucks with such a prefix appeared in its model line relatively recently - in 2010. So they began to call the most powerful and prepared pickup trucks Ford F-150. And here is an important point. Previously, the Raptor was only American, but as of 2019 it may be European, and these are two completely different cars. Its official sales in Ukraine started quite recently, and Avtocentre became one of the first to test this pickup truck on our roads and off-road. And although I have already driven a Ford Ranger Raptor, it was quite interesting to test it in our realities! The pickup truck greeted me like it was straight out of a picture, in signature blue, black rims wrapped in BFGoodrich All Terrain (285/70 R17) tires, and ready for adventure. It is the wheels and high ground clearance that immediately give out an unusual version in the car. And only then you notice the extended wheel arches, a different grille with a huge Ford inscription and a modified front bumper. And although it is stylized as a power one, it is actually plastic. However, immediately below it is a powerful steel protection sheet, extending under the bottom and two towing eyes. This is the whole essence of the Raptor - with external civility, he is quite seriously prepared for the various vicissitudes of the future off-road fate. There is a minimum of decorative things here and everything has its own practical purpose. Take, for example, footboards. With their help, it is really convenient to climb into the cabin, they are durable, they are not scary for off-road and dirt will not accumulate on them. This is not a “decoration”, as on some crossovers, where they do not help, but rather interfere. And you really have to climb, because the body is set high, and the ground clearance is 51 mm more than that of a regular Ranger (Ranger Raptor ground clearance is 283 mm). But you sit high, the review is excellent! I would even say very high, and if you wish, you can pat your hand on the roof of most crossovers. This property was never useful during the test, but just so you understand. Inside, you are greeted by the inscription Ford Performance, front seats with enhanced lateral support, rich trim and a “sporty” steering wheel. The instruments are also noticeably different. If other Rangers have a combined dashboard, then here the scales are analog plus a large on-board computer screen in the center with many tabs, including the choice of driving modes. So the feeling that you are driving an unusual pickup truck only intensifies! Although otherwise, this is the interior of the well-known Ford Ranger. The same center console with the SYNC 3 multimedia system with an 8-inch screen and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a dual-zone climate control button unit (from a series of simple but tasteful), a high automatic transmission selector lever. On the one hand, it’s modest, as for such a pickup truck, on the other hand, all this absolutely stops worrying you when you start driving ... The second row of seats was not affected by any changes at all, but even without this, the “gallery” in the Ranger is the best among classmates. A comfortable sofa with a comfortable back, spacious, there is a central armrest and even a power outlet. The body with a platform of one and a half meters and a distance between the arches of 1.1 m remained unchanged. Except that the carrying capacity of the Ranger Raptor is inferior to its other modifications and is 620 kg. Sliding roller shutter allows not only to cover the load from precipitation, but also to close it.
